What are USFS Test Sessions?
In Learn to Skate you may take "level testing" to assess your skills through Basic Level 1-6 and Freestyle Level 1-6. To progress further in skating, figure skaters take skating tests created by the United States Figure Skating Association (USFS). Find more info on USFS testing here.
A skater's test level determines at what level they will compete. The US skaters you see on television belong to the USFS and have taken many, if not all, of the USFS tests to qualify to compete at that level. The TCFSC generally holds one test session a year at the Toyota Arena in conjunction with our Fun in The Sun Competition. TCFSC Test Applications can be found here.
The first USFS test for any skater is the Pre-Preliminary Moves in the Field Test. Beginning skaters can start working on this test when they start private lessons. You can find each pattern and test on YouTube - one channel which explains each move is here.
